Finding Strength Through Health: A Personal Journey

Facing a health scare can be a daunting experience, but it often leads to discovering profound inner strength and resilience. My journey began one night when I felt unusual pain in my right breast. The pain woke me up and it was during a self-breast exam on November 26 at around 2:30 a.m. that I found a lump on the right side (9 o’clock position) of my right breast.

My first thought was of my mother, who passed away in 2020 after losing her battle with breast cancer. Fear and anxiety quickly followed, but I knew I had to take charge of my health.

In December, I consulted my family physician, who referred me for a mammogram and ultrasound. However, due to hospital protocol, I was not allowed to have the ultrasound without the mammogram. After extensive research, I made the personal decision to forgo the mammogram due to concerns about radiation and pressure and opted for an ultrasound instead. I took matters into my own hands and had my first ultrasound through HerScan https://www.herscan.com, paying out of pocket since it wasn't covered by my insurance.

Immediately, I committed to a new lifestyle regimen. Inspired by Chris Beat Cancer, I made significant dietary and lifestyle changes, focusing on working out, sleeping more, and reducing stress. This holistic approach was essential to my healing. Along the way, I found invaluable guidance from several books that helped shape my journey: Beat Cancer Kitchen: Deliciously Simple Plant-Based Anticancer Recipes by Chris and Micah Wark, and Beat Cancer Daily: 365 Days of Inspiration, Encouragement, and Action Steps to Survive and Thrive by Chris Wark. These resources offered not only practical tips but also daily encouragement that helped me stay focused and hopeful.

As part of my healing journey, I also turned to juicing and plant-based eating to fuel my body with nutrient-rich foods. I began each day with a fresh juice made from greens, lemons, and other vibrant produce, which helped detoxify my system and boost my energy levels. Juicing became a key component of my wellness routine, providing me with essential vitamins and antioxidants. Whether sipping from a juice or enjoying a calming cup of tea, having the right drinkware made it easier to stay consistent. That's why I love using my mugs and cupsβ€”stylish, functional, and perfect for holding your daily wellness drinks.

In May, I underwent a second ultrasound. While the lymph node had shrunk, the tumor was still present. After much prayer and consultation with my family, I decided to proceed with surgery to remove the tumor. I chose not to pursue chemotherapy or radiation, even though the doctor may have recommended them. I had to have the mammogram in order to have the surgery because this was the hospital’s protocol.

Throughout this journey, my faith played a significant role. As an evangelical believer, I believe that prayer and oil anointment were vital parts of my healing process.

Losing my mother in September 2020 was a transformative experience that shifted my entire perspective on health. Her struggle was a constant reminder of the importance of being proactive about my own well-being. Her memory fueled my decision to embrace a healthier lifestyle, including regular exercise and dietary changes, to reduce my own risk.

Today, I am healed, and in the midst of it all, my faith has been a source of immense strength. I find comfort in the words of 2 Timothy 4:18: β€œThe Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” This verse has been a comforting reminder of the divine support that guides me through each day.

To those navigating a similar journey, I encourage you to seek comprehensive care, embrace holistic approaches, and lean on the support of loved ones. Health challenges can be overwhelming, but they also present an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient.

May your path to healing be filled with hope and courage.

GOD BLESS YOU!
